The long-awaited NCIS spinoff, NCIS: Tony & Ziva, is almost here, and stars Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo spoke to PopCulture all about it.

The premiere finds them living in Paris, but not together, as they co-parent Tali with the help of a nanny, Sophie (Lara Rossi). Ziva owns a language school, and Tony has a security company, which is where the trouble begins.

"Michael and I have a lot of trust with each other and are great friends. So, when it comes to shooting these things, we don't want to be micromanaged.

We like to explore it, and we trust each other enough that we allow that to happen."

"The world of Tony and Ziva (and daughter Tali) promises to be an action-packed roller coaster fueled by love, danger, tears and laughter," they said in a statement that offered a shoutout to "Tiva," the moniker bestowed upon the couple by fans. "To this day, they say hello in grocery stores and on the street to tell us how much these characters mean to them and ask what Tony and Ziva are up to now. This is for you!"

NCIS: Tony & Ziva fans at San Diego Comic Con not only got the chance to see a fresh new trailer for the upcoming NCIS spin-off, premiering on Paramount+ September 4, but they also got a chance to see the first ten minutes of the very first episode "No Country Is Safe." Collider's Meredith Loftus was in attendance for the presentation, which included a panel with leads Cote de Pabloand Michael Weatherly, as well as showrunner John McNamara. It was moderated by NCIS' Brian Dietzen

During the NCIS: Tony & Ziva panel at SDCC, de Pablo spoke about the decision to do the show. She called playing Ziva “the greatest adventure of [her] life” while talking about her decision, noting that the spinoff series marked a return to that adventure.

The series came about, McNamara says, “because Michael would not stop bugging me. We both have a deep love of espionage, movies, books, TV, and we’ve been friends for actually 31 years, and there’s always been talk between seasons or when we’re both free of like, ‘Let’s do a thing in Europe, would that be cool? A Hitchcock thing.'”

During a visit to Entertainment Weekly's Comic-Con video studio, the longtime NCIS castmates previewed their upcoming spinoff series NCIS: Tony & Ziva and also took a trip down memory lane.

The panel at the Hilton’s Indigo Ballroom also featured executive producer and showrunner John McNamara and moderator Brian Dietzen of NCIS. McNamara promised the show should appeal to both diehard fans and newbies.
